The latest bleaching methods ensure that you have a more radiant and delightful smile.
In due course of time, teeth become dark since minerals breach the enamel.
This may be tea, coffee, red wine, cola drinks, and medications (tetracycline staining), iron supplements.
Bleaching agents split up the oxygen and it’s pushed through the tooth surface. The staining rapidly vanishes and the tooth structure is not harmed.
Several techniques are available:
-
In office bleaching also known as laser bleaching
-
Professional Home bleaching
-
Combination of in office and home bleaching
In office/laser whitening procedure: whitening procedure that takes place at our dental practice, and uses light activated bleaching gel. Procedure usually takes +/- 1-1.5 hours and produces instant whitening results. Many dentists, and our team recommend that i office bleaching should be followed up by professional home whitening.
Prior to in office whitening we will scale and polish your teeth thoroughly removing all tartar, as the bleaching works far better.
At our practice the team will explain thoroughly the procedure.
Professional home bleaching: we take impressions or a mould of your teeth using special dental putty. Our technicians will cast a model of your teeth from the plaster and make your custom teeth whitening trays.
Depending on the whitening system, some trays need to be worn overnight while others only 1-2 hours a day.
Many people are not suitable for teeth whitening. We will assess your suitability during a consultation. The teeth whitening process does not change the colour of existing crowns, veneers, fillings, so it’s important to understand that you may need to change these to match the colour of your whitened teeth. Normally we wait 2-3 weeks before changing the fillings.
How much whiter will they look?
This varies from individual to individual and also depends on the type of whitening system used. Some people respond very well to teeth whitening, the result is dramatically whiter whereas others may notice little or no difference at all (v rare). Normally the new white colour keeps quite well . The effect is dependant on what causes the teeth to discolour.
It is essential that you follow the instructions given by the dentist in wearing trays and applying the gel.
Safety studies have shown that prescribed bleaching agents by dentists for home and in office bleaching are perfectly safe. The bleaching gel has a neutral Ph. However, there are problems with gels which are purchased over the counter. They are inexpensive, however, they normally contain acid rinses which can damage the teeth and thin down the enamel. This acid can be extremely harmful to the teeth.
OUR TEAM COMPLIES WITH THE LATEST EU REGULATIONS REGARDING TEETH WHITENING.
